so yesterday, i was asked to open the new box office at Canada Hockey Place (CHP) - that one is pretty self-explanatory as to what is going on there during the games - and so i got a chance to be right down in the middle of the heart of the games here in vancouver! CHP is right next door to the BC Place and directly across the water from the olympic village - so it's a vibrant, busy, exciting, electric area of the games! (especially with the mass arrival of so many athletes just 2 days ago...) it really feels like the main central place to be!!!!
the mcdonald's right outside the athlete village.
looking across a little lake to the athlete's village. (if you turned to the RIGHT from where i took this, you would see BC Place, aka the Olympic Stadium, and Canada Hockey Place. so it's all right down there together.)
the big magic globe of sochi. (you'll see it in future pictures.) sochi is the host of the 2014 winter olympics - and they have set up a 'sochi expo' at the science world here.
looking across the water to BC Place (Olympic Stadium) and Canada Hockey Place (on the far right....)
to the right of Canada Hockey Place is the Quebec Cube. (each of the provinces and territories of canada will have an expo-y type place....)
looking back across the lake to 'sochi expo' (at science world) and the olympic village...with a slight color-accented (blue) subtle approach.
the 'Q' of the quebec cube...up close and personal.
an inflatable welcome globe.
some innuit rock art along the banks of the water.
just art.
looking at BC Place and Canada Hockey Place from the box office.
the only photo from "inside" the stadium...for now. this made me laugh at first sight..but then i learned that is how the french write money...and since english and french are the official languages of the games, everything is written in both formats. but MAN - at first i thought, THAT is some expensive vitamin water.
fun new friend, sherry!!! who carried the torch last week!!! LUCKY!
sherry and i add in fun new friend, danny!!! and 3 port-a-potties!!!!
looking back down the water towards the Q-cube, and 'sochi expo', with a few residential buildings in the middle, as the sun sets and the lights come on.
'sochi expo' turns on the lights and charm.
getting a little darker from the same place.
ME! celebrating being in the heart of it all...
the Q-cube, all lit up!
looking back towards BC Place and Canada Hockey Place and the Q-cube, as i finish my day and head to the skytrain station.
